Last weekend saw Lewis Hamilton equal Michael Schumacher’s record of 91 wins, This was a great moment in history as Schumacher’s son Miki handed one of his fathers helmet to Hamilton after the race. The Nurbugring had its fair share of bad weather with teams not being able to take part in the practice session due to bad weather.
Lance Stroll was not able to race for his team Racing point as he was unwell, Reserve driver Nico Hulkenburg was called at the last minute to race. He didnt have enough time to practice with car starting at position 20 and ending up finishing position 8 given that he didnt practice. Thereby earning driver of the day.
The Portuguese GP was added in this years F1 calendar in light of COVID 19 pandemic which led to the cancellation of other races. This was a new track most drivers had not tested it before. During the practice session two saw Aplha Tauri Gasly catch fire luckily the driver was fine.
Race day had its moments with the top three drivers dropping this was mainly due to the medium tyres which saw drivers like Sainz, Kimi and Lando making gains in the first ten laps of the race which was highly attributed to soft tyres. Perez who dropped to p 20 due to an incident with Max managed to finish p 7 making him driver of the day.
Six time world champion Lewis Hamilton set a new world record of 92 wins in formula 1 breaking Schumacher’s record. He is also credited with 161 race finishes; Lewis has finished all the races this season.
This weekend we head to Imola the race and teams will only have a 90 minute session to get acquainted with the track which has not been used since 2006.
